Festive Orange & Chocolate Truffles

With Christmas around the corner, I can’t help but make festive treats for the whole family! I am such a dark chocolate and orange lover so if you are like me these are sure to make your heart smile!

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” – Andy Williams

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pitted dates
  • 1 cup mixed nuts, pumpkin seeds, cranberries
  • 1/2 cup oat meal {use a milling blade to make your own}
  • 1/3 cup desiccated coconut, reserve some for rolling
  • 1/3 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/3 nut butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp date syrup
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 70% dark organge/naartjie chocolate

Method

  1. Soak the dates in boiling water for 5 minutes and drain.
  2. Add to a high speed blender or food processor and pulse. Add the oat meal, mixed nuts, pumpkin seeds, cranberries and pulse again.
  3. Add the coconut, nut butter, coconut oil, cinnamon, date syrup, orange juice and blend for 60 seconds. I like the crunch of the nuts but if you prefer a smoother consistency blend for another 60 seconds.
  4. Place a medium saucepan with some water over a medium heat and boil. Once boiling add the chocolate to a pyrex dish and place on top of the saucepan and melt for 4 – 5 minutes.
  5. Using a tablespoon roll the mixture into balls with the left over coconut and place on some baking paper.
  6. Sprinkle with the orange zest and drizzle over the melted chocolate and serve.
  7. Enjoy on Christmas eve with a glass of red wine or nut milk of choice!
